Raising Children On A Plant Based Diet...
There is plenty conflict when it comes to raising children, however there is even more when those children are being raised on a plant based diet.
Of course, everyone has their own opinions on how to raise children and not everyone is going to agree 100%. However, I think we can all agree that in the end what matters is raising happy and healthy children who will one day become our future. Right? Right.
According to research, a heart healthy diet is as important in children as it is adults. Did you know that cardiovascular disease begins in childhood? Well if you didn't, you do now. As a vegan, and one who is constantly reading up on things, I know that a plant based diet offers so many better options when it comes to heart healthy foods. Anyone could thrive on a plant based diet, you just have to try.
However, I think the most conflict arises when it comes to sharing with children what actually goes on in the industry. Why do so many feel the need to shelter their children from the truth? Well, the answer is simple, its because they know it is brutal and inhumane. Of course nobody wants to share such horrible images and truth with children, but does this mean we should be lying to them? I think they have a right to know, no matter what age, where their food comes from. You would be surprised at the decisions they can make at such a young age. They know right from wrong, and I feel as if they know that more than adults do. Please, don't be afraid to share the truth with your kids. There are plenty of kid-friendly vegan videos and articles out there, you just have to look. I promise you that one day, they will thank you that you did.
Oh and yes, I can have an opinion on this because I am actually a mama. I would like to introduce my beautiful daughter, Peyton...
Does she look malnourished and unhappy to you? No she doesn't, because she is a very happy AND healthy young lady. She will be turning 5 in a few days. She loves playing soccer and animals. She loves wearing dresses, but also loves to climb trees and get dirty. She has also become very vocal in stating her opinions on eating animal products. For her to be so young and already get it, and is trying to get the message out to others. I couldn't be more proud of her. She is the future.
